  • Notes
    • Joene Kay Arritola was born October 20, 1949 in Boise, Idaho to Joe and Josephine Arritola. She was welcomed by a big brother, Jim. Joene lived and attended school in Boise and graduated from Borah High School in 1967 and then attended Boise State University. Joene worked for Lloyd’s Country Store for a number of years and then for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital where she retired as the Human Resources Specialist.

Joene was born into the Basque community as her father, was part of the Boise Euzkaldunak and was very proud of her heritage and enjoyed numerous summers in the Jordan Valley Area with many, many family members. She lost her father when she was only 12 years of age which devastated her as she was the apple of his eye.

Joene welcomed her only child, a daughter, Amy Joene Hedberg on March 2, 1971. She was most proud of her daughter and eventually her two grandsons, Tanner and Trevor Romans, whom she frequently referred to as the “light of her life, love of her heart”. She was famous for her delicious chocolate chip cookies and when she didn’t bring them to an event or family dinner it was a sign that there was something not quite right as she had forgotten how to make them.

Joene enjoyed her 70th birthday party with several cousins and friends. Joene, Joni, Joanne, and Christina were close up until the end, literally. Joni, Joanne, and Christina were there to help when it was time for her to receive the specializeed care she needed. They lovingly helped her move out of her home of many years and into her new home at Foxtail Senior Living. This led to her newest family, The Foxtail Memory/Hospice Care family who loved her as their own. Sammy, Chris, Becca, Ashley, and numerous others. Rene Smith was Joene’s best friend and was like a second mother to Amy. The two were exact opposites but enjoyed and lived their lives together for a number of years during Amy’s childhood.

Joene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she volunteered and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was thrilled to be a leader in the evangelization retreats, even going to other parishes in Idaho and numerous other states. She was also the main speaker at the Boise Life March and Birthright Benefit event.

Joene lost her battle with dementia on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. It is with no doubt she was welcomed into heaven by our heavenly Father and her loving family. Gone too soon but never forgotten and forever loved especially by her daughter, Amy.

Joene was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Josephine, brother Jim, and sister-in-law Kathy. She is survived by her daughter Amy; son-in-law Greg; grandsons Tanner and Trevor; daughter-in-law Ashley; numerous nieces and nephews including Joe and Theresa, Adam, Sarah, and TJ; and many, many more family and friends.
