      George Baptiste Mentaberry also known as Patch passed away on September 7, 2011 at his home in Winnemucca. He was born February 22, 1930 in Winnemucca to John and Damiena

      Mentaberry. He spent his school years in Winnemucca and summers on Washburn Creek Ranch, the family ranch in McDermitt. Patch attended Winnemucca Grammar School and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1949. While attending High School he participated in many sports. In 1949 he was chosen as an all-state player in basketball. Upon graduation Patch attended the University of Nevada for one year before going into the Army and serving in the Korean War.

      Patch raised seven children at Washburn Creek Ranch. Patch owned and worked on Washburn Creek ranch with his brother Eddie for 54 years before retiring four years ago.

      Patch is preceded in death by his first wife Jeanne Bovenzi Mentaberry; parents John and Damiena Mentaberry; brothers John Jr., Fausto and Henry Mentaberry; sister Annie Bengoa, and son Dennis Mentaberry.

      Patch is survived by his brothers David and Eddie Mentaberry; sisters Mary Yrueta and Dee Jones; daughters Tammy Pollock (Kelly), Darby Bryant (John), Hayley Bernardi (Luca), and Whitney Mentaberry; sons Mike Mentaberry (Mary) and John Mentaberry; grandchildren Scooter Mentaberry (Eleny), Meagan Oppenheim [Joao], Molly Mentaberry, Margaret Bwire [Joe], Kevin Mentaberry, Melissa Panell (Shane), Jay Mentaberry, Mitch Pollock, Daniel Pollock, Hallie Bryant, Daphne Bryant, and Kirby Bryant, great grandchildren; Henry Dennis Mentaberry, Peyton Carrion, Jeremiah Bwire, Aiella Mentaberry-Gilbert, Mazy Mentaberry, Ava Mentaberry, Zaden

      Mentaberry, Cheney Kessler, Tenley Pennell, and Ireland Pannell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

      Patch enjoyed watching high school athletics, going on mining ventures with his brothers, and watching and betting on pro football. Patch also enjoyed owning a race horse "Make Space" with friends in McDermitt and traveling to different locations in the west to watch the horse race and win! The Basque Stables will not be forgotten.

      A rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday August 9, 2011 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. The Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday August 10, 2011 also at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Winnemucca. Arrangements are under the direction of Albertson Funeral Home.
