- Ontario—Gail Maltsberger of Ontario, Oregon passed away Thursday May 15th early in the morning due to complications arising from several bouts of pneumonia. Gail was born in Gary, Indiana to a loving mother Mary Howell and father James. Mary moved to Ontario, Oregon where Gail was raised by her mother and Sam Llona who Gail always referred to as her true father. She graduated from Ontario High School and attended the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Majoring in History
She married Dean Maltsberger and had 2 children that were the light of her life. She moved to Salt Lake in the 1960’s where she lived a number of years. She was involved in her children’s little league, baseball, football, softball and dance.
Her crowning achievement was her love and dedication to the United States Post Service. She was one of the first woman in management in the Rocky Mountain area and proud of it. After serving for 32 years she retired and returned to Ontario where she lived the remainder of her life.
She was the family and neighborhood librarian and historian. Her vivid embrace of the writ- ten word was legendary. She loved to travel and did so often. Her favorite destination was the Oregon Coast.
She is survived by her brother Thomas Llona, and her sister Maria Llona, and her children Dean Maltsberger and Pamala Chandler. She was proud to know and love 4 grandchildren Patrick Maltsberger, Jennifer Maltsberger, Kyrie Chandler and Ryanna Chandler. Gail had 3 great grandchildren Amelia Maltsberger, Jansen Maltsberger, and Oliver Maltsberger.
She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Mary, her father Sam, and her brother Sam.
At Gail’s request a small family gathering will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday. In Lieu of flowers please donate to Project Dove at 585 NW 1st Street Ontario, Oregon 97914. This was a foundation that both Gail and her Mother believed in strongly.
