- Johnny Chacartegui
Johnny Chacartegui of Portland, Oregon, died on December 27, 2009 at the age of 87 after a brief stay in the hospital. Johnny will be laid to rest at the Willamette National Cemetery. The family will honor Johnny's request for a private service. Johnny was born August 21, 1922 in Boise, Idaho to Jose and Lucasia Chacartegui. Both his parents were Basque immigrants from Spain. Johnny was the youngest of six brothers and was the last survivor. Upon graduating from Nampa High School in 1941 he joined the Army and served his country during World War II. Johnny was awarded and received the Purple Heart. Johnny married his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Elliott in Nampa, Idaho. They remained married until his death. He worked for Department of Agriculture as a Federal Meat Inspector. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Antone, Phillip, Eusibio, Julio and twin brother Joe. He is survived by his wife Dorothy and his children Jack and wife Lisa, Robert, Phyllis and her husband Gary Merrick, Kenneth and his wife Sue as well as his grandchildren Angie Minic, Benita Changi, Johnny Chacartegui, Lori Ann Merges, Doug Merrick, David Merrick, Cody Chacartegui, Melissa Chacartegui and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces. Johnny will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
