| 753 | David Paul Lodzinski Dec. 18, 1929 - May 19, 2010 Vale David Paul Lodzinski, 80, Vale, died at home May 19, 2010. David was born Dec. 18, 1929, to John and Mary (Wisniewski) Lodzinski in the Township of Linwood, near Stevens Point, Wis., the eighth of 11 children. David was very fond of the outdoors and loved planting and growing things. This led him to a career in range conservation and natural resource management, working for the Bureau of Land Management. In his 33 years with the BLM he worked in Idaho, New Mexico, Virginia, and Oregon, serving as Assistant District Manager in Vale from 1980 to his retirement in 1989. Prior to his career with the BLM, he attended college at Stevens Point State College and graduated from Utah State in 1955. He worked as a wildland firefighter and a smoke-jumper. In the Korean War, he served proudly with the 25th Infantry Division. David will be remembered as a great man, husband, and father. He was father not only to his own children but to anyone he met in need of one — friends of his children and other young people needing a mentor. He was generous, caring, and patient and would always open up his home and his table. He has inspired those around him and touched the livives of many people who speak of him with love and appreciation. He had a strong faith in God with a deep, prayerful spirituality. He was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, in Vale, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member the Society of Range Management and an ardent supporter of numerous community organizations. David, with his easy laugh and light heart, will be greatly missed by his friends, siblings, nieces, nephews, and most of all his family and grandchildren. He is survived by Cecilia (Sillonis), his wife of 47 years; children, Mary (Rick) Machado, of Denver, Robert, of Portland, Anne (Kevin) Schmiesing, of Sidney, Ohio and Steven (Caitlin), of Beaverton; grandchildren, David, Jacob, Leah, and Joseph Machado and John, Theresa, Maria, Agnes, Augustine, and Margaret Schmiesing; also survived by sisters, Marjorie (Jude) Culligan, Virginia (Kenneth) Glazer, Jeanette (Ralph) Hurrish, Barbara (Bob) Brooks; and brothers, Gregory and Jacob; and n numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. Prayers and offerings of Masses are most welcome. | 754 | Death and Memorial Notice Peninsula Daily News (Port Angeles, WA) - Sunday, March 6, 2011 January 21, 1927 February 27, 2011 Louise was born in Battle Mountain, Nevada, on January 21, 1927, and died peacefully at home in Clallam Bay, surrounded by family, on February 27, 2011. She was the daughter of Basque immigrants and proud of her cultural heritage, and had lifelong empathy and compassion for immigrants and newcomers. Her early life was spent sheep and cattle ranching in rural Nevada; it was there that she met her husband, Ken. They continued ranching until moving to Clallam Bay in 1966, where she worked seasonally as a waitress, then a bookkeeper. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and volunteered on the Election Board and as an EMT. Eventually they purchased farm and timberland and were able to enjoy those endeavors for many years, supplying their family and friends with beef and wood. Together they worked diligently to practice conscientious land management. Under the Washington State Conservation Program, they were awarded Wildlife Habitat Farm of the year in 2003 and 2006. Louise's passion for cattle remained until death and brought her many years of contentment. She was a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Prudencio and Paula Mendive; brothers, John, Joe, Prudencio Jr., Raymond and Celestino. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ken Sadilek; sister Pauline Beitia; daughters and spouses Laurel (Larry) Burtness, Linda (Russ) Mellon, Loretta (Juan) Bascaran; foster children Lita (Ed) Piffero and Jim (Danielle) Yroz; grandchildren Tamara, Corby (Trang), Ben (Jessica), Justin, Andy, and Alex; and great-grandchildren Kaleo, Kali, and Layla. Perhaps her greatest life achievement was the demonstration to her family of the value of faith for guidance and comfort in the journey of life. She burned a lot of candles praying for all of us. A memorial service is planned at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Clallam Bay on March 12, 2011, with Rosary to be said at 11:30 a.m., followed by Mass, then a Celebration of Life gathering at the Lions Club, starting at approximately 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. | 755 | Dec. 9, 1923 - April 4, 2005 Joey W. Acaiturri, 81, of Sweet Home died Monday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis. Joey was born in Mt. Home, Idaho, to Jocinto and Rosaria (Ajuria) Acaiturri. His parents were both from the Basque region in Spain, but met in the United States. Joey married his first wife, Polly, of 41 years in 1947. She died in 1988. He married Betty Lindley in Reno, Nev., in 1989. Joey moved to Burley, Idaho, in his youth. He served in the Army during World War II in the Philippines. He held degrees from Boise Junior College and Southern Idaho College of Education. He received a master's degree in administration from the University of Oregon. His first teaching position was in Dayville. He worked as the superintendent of schools in Culver, Vernonia and Pleasant Hill. He resigned from his position in Pleasant Hill to accept the superintendent position in Sweet Home. The 14-member group screening applicants for the position selected Joey unanimously, because of an information sheet circulated at the selection meeting that credited him with starting innovative curricula at Pleasant Hill. He served the district from 1972 to 1981, when he retired. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Sweet Home; sisters Joyce Tonnemaker of Seattle and Juanita Kenny; and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by brothers Louie, Pete, Gene, Leon and Sonny; and sisters Mary and Julia. A memorial service was at 1 p.m. today at Fir Lawn Lutheran Church in Sweet Home. | 771 | Delphina Frances Yturraspe Staples, 86, of Jordan Valley, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2012, in Nampa, Idaho. She was born on October 10, 1925, in Jordan Valley, to Joseph and Benita Yturraspe. She attended elementary school and high school in Jordan Valley and on November 3, 1943, she married the love of her life, Dick Staples. The couple moved to the Driscoll Ranch near Jordan Valley where they engaged in the ranching business and raised their four children, Harry, Carol, Frances and Mike. Delphina was very active in St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Jordan Valley, teaching Catholic catechism classes to elementary age children for many years. After losing her husband in 1983, Delphina began working outside of her home as a teacher's aid at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School for many years. This was a true joy in her life. Delphina loved to crochet and made many an afghan for her children and grandchildren. She was also noted for her one-of-a-kind chocolate chip cookies. She made literally thousands of these cookies for her family throughout the years. At the age of 70, Delphina joined in a family trip to Kauai, Hawaii, and successfully hiked the treacherous 2 mile Hanakapai Trail on the beautiful Napali Coast. Delphina is survived by her son Harry Staples and his wife, Patty of Homedale; her daughter Carol Bruce and her husband, Bob of Pleasant Valley, ID; her daughter Frances Widener and her husband, Lloyd of Portland, OR; and her son Mike Staples of Fort Collins, CO. She also has 14 grandchildren; Harry's children, Ann Ledford and Shawn Staples; Carol's children, Andrea Niederer, Ryan Bruce, Jenny Woodburn and Josh Bruce; Frances' children, Jeremy Widener, Amy Starbuck and Joel Widener; and Mike's children, Luke Staples, Amanda Staples, Jed Staples, Hilary Staples and Natalie Staples; 10 great-grandchildren, Nicole Brock, Julie Ledford, Austin Ledford, Olivia Niederer, Elaina Niederer, Wyatt Starbuck, Sydney Starbuck, Isaac Staples, Houston Bruce and Pace Bruce; one great-great-grandchild, Elias Brock; her sister, Beada Jaca; two sisters in law, Jerri Uranga and Ruby Staples; and many nieces nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, Richard Staples, her sister, Dora Collins and one grandson, Richard Bruce. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 23, 2012, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Jordan Valley. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Diane is survived by her husband Dalton; son and daughter-in-law, Waylon and Candace Lowery; daughter and son-in-law Erin and Dan Baerwaldt; grandchildren; Callen; Madison, Brooke, Regan; Sarah and one more on the way; brothers, Steve; Carl and Dale Erquiaga and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Diane's life will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at The Gardens Chapel at 3 pm. Inurnment will be at a later date. | 792 | Diane Storey Richards Diane passed away July 25, 2008, with her loved ones by her side after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 30, at Cloverdale Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at Cloverdale Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home. Diane was born on Feb. 6, 1940, in Nampa, Idaho, to Donald M Storey and Louise Gabica Storey. As an infant, the family moved to Meridian. She attended school in Meridian and later went on to attend the Links Business School and was a member of Holy Apostle Catholic Church. Although Diane lived in the Treasure Valley most of her life, she felt very fortunate to have traveled to many other countries throughout the world. Their last adventure took them to Hong Kong, Singapore and the Island of Bali in Indonesia. Returning home to her family, friends and their little dog, Heidi, was always a joy for Diane. Diane is survived by her loving fiancé, James B. Sproat of Boise; her son, Jay M. Hall and friend, Cindy McDowell, of Boise; and granddaughter, Storie Rene Hall of Boise. She is also survived by her aunt and uncle, Dr. Willi Tipton and Alice Gabica Tipton of Ontario, Ore.; Richard Gabica of Nampa; several beloved cousins; and Michael Sproat, Christina Sproat and Carolyn Sproat, all of Boise. | 799 | Dolores June Blanton Cables Echanis OCT. 14, 1929 — JAN. 20, 2021 ONTARIO Dolores was born in Ontario, Oregon October 14th 1929 to Wesley James Blanton and Gertrude Monce Blanton. She passed on January 20th, 2021. Dolores was raised on the family cattle ranch that included the Malheur Butte, surrounding farm ground and nearby rangeland. Her only sister, Lorraine, who was five years older, preceded her in passing on Sept. 19, 2012. The two girls, being the only children of Wes and Gertie, grew up learning to work cattle and farm. Dolores loved her working cow horses, Redcrest and Sunnyboy. She was an excellent rider and roper and the best heeler at brandings, roping 50 head one day. She never competed in the arena, but she was chosen as queen of the Malheur County Rodeo in 1947 and represented Ontario in the Payette Apple Blossom the same year. The family farm and ranch was homesteaded in 1881 and improved through the years. So Dolores grew up milking cows, driving mule teams mowing and raking hay, cooking and cleaning; as well as riding the range and buckarooing for the family herd of Hereford beef cows that eventually numbered about 500. Dolores grew up loving and caring for animals so it’s no surprise that she contributed to many animal care organizations. Dolores graduated from Ontario High School in 1948. She spent a couple of years working for Idaho Power in the Ontario office. In 1950 she married Jim Cables and gave birth to son Tim in 1951 and daughter Tammy in 1960. Several years after her divorce from Jim she married John Echanis and gave birth to Annette Echanis in 1965. Dolores was invited to learn to play bridge in 1959 and she took to the game with great enthusiasm and competence. As the years passed by her trophies numbered too many to conveniently display. She achieved Life Master in 1984 and Gold Life Master in 2011. That same year she was appointed to the ACBL Goodwill and Charity Committee for the five northwestern states, Puerto Rico and Guam. In 2018 Dolores won the ACBL Western Conference, with partner Lorinda Pearson, gaining 24 master points playing against 556 tables scattered across the western United States. She played with many partners through the years, and at the ACBL Nationals in Hawaii, she won first overall with a partner she had never played with before. When the local Ontario Bridge Club suspended play in March of 2020, Dolores had won a total 3988 master points. Her fellow players appreciated her buoyant personality and her willingness to play with new players and never criticize, but always coach. She had a kind manner, radiant smile, infectious laughter and impeccable style. A 2016 newspaper article paying tribute to her 45 years of service as secretary-treasure and local club manager said, “For decades she has been our goodwill ambassador extraordinaire.” She was also known at the many tournaments she played in for making and bringing the best fudge ever. She loved to bake, especially pies, which were just simply the best. Dolores loved to dance, especially the jitterbug. She also loved to travel and, like dancing, she had the good fortune to do quite a bit of it. Traveling with her mother and two young daughters on the first commercial tour to Borneo she was offered the opportunity by the chieftain of a former head-hunting tribe to have her youngest daughter remain there, as bride to his son, thus becoming “Queen of the Jungle.” Standing in front of the shrunken head lodge, the tour guide had to wrestle daughter, Annette, away from the tribe’s chief, who was used to getting his way and not at all accustomed to being told what to do. Dolores was privileged to accumulate many more travel memories throughout her life, many of which have something to do with bridge, but all have something to do with her buoyant and adventurous personality. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew and loved her. Dolores is survived by her son and daughter, Tim Cables and Tammy Cables of Ontario, her daughter Annette Echanis of Los Angeles, California and grandchildren, Hannah Cooper and Cole Cooper of Kennewick and Seattle Washington.
