| 706 | Benedicta "Bene" Aldecoa Wilson 1919 ~ 2016 Benedicta "Bene" Aldecoa Wilson passed away at her home, Friday, January 22, 2016, at the age of 96. Bene was born May 17, 1919, in Boise, to John Domingo and Maria Pagoaga Aldecoa, who immigrated from the Basque Country. She was the fourth of their five children. She had a wonderful childhood with her siblings and cousins in Boise, and summers visiting her father's mountain sheep camps. Bene attended St. Teresa's Academy and there her lifelong love of music began. She was an accomplished pianist and harpist. She studied music at both St. Mary's of the Wasatch in Salt Lake City, and at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she graduated in May 1941. After graduation she woorked for the Red Cross, and later the Army Corps of Engineers in Boise. During World War II, Bene and her sister, Delphine "Del", were FAA air traffic controllers in Great Falls, Montana. After the war, Bene returned to Boise and was a secretarary for Idaho Power. Bene met her husband, Dr. Richard "Dick" Wilson, on a double date with her sister, Del. Bene and Dick were married December 17, 1950 and had two children, Jeanne and John. After her husband passed away in 1966, Bene worked as a secretary for Idaho's Secretary of State, Pete Cenarrusa. After retiring, Bene enjoyed traveling the world, playing golf and bridge, and especially liked spending time with her family and grandchildren at her lakeside cabin in McCall. She was a volunteer for St. Alphonsus Auxiliary and the Morrison Center. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League, the Boise Junior League, and Hillcrest Country Club. She also played the harp for the Boise Philharmonic during their early years. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Maurina Bowles (Andrew), brothers, Basil (Dorothy) and Manuel Aldecoa. She is survived by her sister, Delphine Aldecoa; daughter, Jeanne Wilson; son, John Wilson (Dolores); grandchildren, John Pidgeon, Marisa Berndt (Michael), and Richard and Tony Wilson; and great granddaughter, Amaya Berndt. A Rosary in Bene's honor will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, January 29, 2016 at Summers Funeral Home, Boise Chapel, 1205 W Bannock St, Boise. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 811 S Latah St, Boise. A reception will follow at Hillcrest Country Club, from 2 till 5 pm. Our family's special thanks go to her caregivers, James Maloy, and especially to Sharon Beets, who took care of Bene until she passed. Beth was born October 7, 1926, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Duane and Mabel Devine. She Attended Steven-Henager College in Salt Lake City. Beth married Joseph Arruti and was a long time resident of Winnemucca, Nev. Beth worked at 1st National Bank then at the BLM where she retired in 1988. She was a member of the LDS church and enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing. Beth was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Arruti, her parents Duane and Mable Devine and her brother Jack Devine. Beth is survived by her sons Michael of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Mark (Dee Dee) of Roseville, California, and daughter Vicki Cisna (Jim) of Winnemucca, Nevada, and her sister Donna Fairchild of Spring Creek, Nevada. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 9th, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Ontario. Billie was born June 6, 1930 in Gooding, Idaho. She attended school in Gooding where she met Joe Berria. They married in 1947 and eventually found their way to Ontario where they started raising a family that eventually grew to include six terrific children (who had editorial control of this obituary). She is survived by her children: Terry Stewart, Linda Feeley, Pam Benintendi, Frank Berria, Mark Berria and Matt Berria. While raising six kids, she still found time to give back to the community through various organizations including PEO Chapter AF, Catholic Church Altar Society, Ontario PTA, Hospital Auxiliary and Ontario Chamber of Commerce. Always ready to take on a challenge, she started a new career by purchasing and running Fashion Crossroads until her retirement. She married Dick Wilson and lived in Boise until his death. She is survived by her stepson Rick Wilson. After retiring she found more time to continue sharing her skills in a number of ways. She hand made over 3,100 baby quilts that she donated to worthwhile causes like Oregon Child Services, Project Dove, Snake River Pediatrics, local hospitals and clinics. The satisfaction she received from seeing children receive her quilts was what kept driving her until just days before her death. That same independence and determination caused her to do the unexpected from time to time, like getting her first and only tattoo at the age of 82. Of course, the tattoo was of a heart and the words “From My Heart To Yours”, which not surprisingly, is the way she signed each quilt given. Billie will be missed by family, friends, her grandchildren, the children who received her gifts and the community in general. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Treasure Valley Children’s Relief Nursery. The family would like to express their heart felt gratitude to the devoted and caring staff at the Presbyterian Community Care Center, St. Alphonsus Hospital and all of her friends that kept Billie in her thoughts and prayers. She married the love of her life, Jack Barnes, on October 8, 1977. Toni was a homemaker and an artist. She loved people and sometimes worked as a bartender. She sold her paintings at shows and on her online store. She was very talented and art was her biggest passion. She loved painting and sold her paintings to people all over the world. She had a great love for family; together Jack and Toni had four wonderful daughters. Toni was a very loving, caring and beautiful person to all she encountered. She loved her animals and selling jewelry beauty products on her online store. She will be missed greatly. She is survived by her husband, Jack Barnes, of Ontario; four daughters: Shawna Bolley, of Ontario, Linda Marzolla, of Paradise, CA, Suzanne Sanders, of Maryland; and Stacey Barnes, of New Mexico; six grandkids and six great-grandkids. Jules Heguilustoy, loving husband, father, Tatxi and Aitatxi was born in Arhansus, France. He immigrated to the United States on May 13, 1959. It was in Elko, Nevada that he met Paulette, who later became the love of his life, his life long best friend and the mother of his daughters. They married in 1968 and made their home in Bakersfield. He spent the last 40 years, self-employed, hauling livestock. He thoroughly loved his profession. He loved his clients/ special friends but most of all he loved being with the animals and the outdoors. Jules taught many how to do their job and always stressed the importance of honesty and integrity. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Paulette; his daughters, Monique (Jean) Flesher and Denise (David) Shaw; grandchildren, Jean-Jules, Jake, Luke and Dominika; sisters, Anna and Catisha and brother Pierre of France, as well as many nieces, nephews and special cousins, too numerous to name. Jules was preceded in death by his parents, and his youngest brother, Jean Baptiste of France. Jules had many special friends. He was an inspiration to all that met him. He had an incredible work ethic and his family values were unsurpassed. These values are what made him the self-made man that he was. He was a man of strength and determinnation. The past year, his determination, strength and patience were tested beyond the limits, and through it all he kept his chin up, and was always directing his thoughts in other directions, besides his own. One of his greatest accomplishmentnts was becoming an American Citizen. He was a life long member of the Kern County Basque Club and Kern County Wool Growers Association. He was extremely proud of his Basque Heritage. He will be deeply missed by all his family and those that knew him. | 719 | Birth: Dec. 10, 1921 Death: Jan. 17, 2008 Frank A. Ascuaga, 86, died peacefully at his Notus home on January 17, 2008. He was born in Caldwell on December 10, 1921, to Basque immigrants Jose and Marina Ascuaga. Frank was the second of their four children. He attended Enrose School and graduated from Notus High. Following high school, he graduated from Boise Business College. On December 7, 1941, Frank was working as a payroll clerk for Morrison-Knudsen Company at a jobsite in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He quickly enlisted in the U.S. Navy. His compact stature ("130 pounds of lean, mean fighting machine!") made him ideally suited to being a Fighting Seabee. While in the Navy, he trained in Marin, California, as a deep sea diver, diving to 300 feet to do underwater welding because it meant an additional $10 per month. During this time, Frank met Winifred Bartlett at a USO dance in San Francisco. Romance blossomed and they were married on August 31, 1946. The couple settled in Idaho. Eventually they purchased the family dairy operation and farm ground from Frank's parents. Believing that he was more suited to raising beef than to milking cows, Frank sold the milk cows in 1955 and started a feedlot. He successfully operated the feedlot and farmed the adjoining acreage for over 35 years. Frank and Winnie loved to entertain, and their home will be remembered by many for the dinner conversation, the card games, and the generous hospitality. Frank and Winifred welcomed their daughter Rita. Frank was a proud and devoted father. He took parenting seriously and was willing to assist with just about any of Rita's projects. He was especially welcoming to her friends and schoolmates. Throughout Rita's life, Frank was very supportive and offered words of encouragement, along with plenty of advice, whether she wanted it or not. Following Winifred's death in 1996, Frank continued fishing with friends, cheering for the BSU football team and attending his brother's annual cattle drive. He looked forward to the cattle drive and the pranks that were pulled on him. Of course, he pulled a few pranks himself. Frank began spending more and more time with his dear friend, Peg Araquistain, relishing her company and camaraderie. A new romance blossomed and they were married on June 15, 2005. The couple enjoyed traveling, gardening, and visiting with family and friends. Among the highlights of their time together was a trip to Spain where they toured the Basque Country and connected with Frank's heritage. Except for a few years in the 1940's, Frank lived his entire life on the ground that his parents homesteaded in 1917. He cared deeply for his family, friends, neighbors and pets. Those who knew him will remember him being full of life. People of every age enjoyed his company. Frank was a founding member of the Caldwell Basque Group (now Euzkaldunak Charities, Inc.), a member of BPOE Elks Lodge #1448 and a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Frank is survived by his wife, Peg; his daughter, Rita of Boise; two sisters, Carmen Blackwell of Vancouver Washington and Rosie (Kermit) Kadel of Notus; one brother, John (Rose) Ascuaga of Carson City, NV; three step-sons, Tony of Elko, NV, Mark (Theresa) of Caldwell and Craig of Fairbanks, Alaska; two step-daughters, Mary Kay of Portland and Beth of Caldwell; several nieces and nephews; his dog, Clyde and a number of genuine friends and good neighbors, many who were life-long. Interment will follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, under direction of the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. She attended Marywood School in Anaheim to learn to read and write, then went to San Juan Capistrano to work for Cornelio Echenique and then married. Cornelio Echenique was a son of the family she had worked for in Dancharinea, Urdax. In fact, Juanita Mugica Bastanchury worked at that house, Errecaldenea, for four years before leaving to come to the USA. When Tia Juanita left Bonifacia took her place for the next four years before she left. Only those who loved her got away with calling her Blanche. Bonnie was born oon March 2, 1920 in Clear Creek, Utah to Hazel Mason Kenner and Nathaniel Bailey Kenner. She married Manuel (Spic) Osoro on April 23, 1939. They had four children, all as different as the day is long, but loved equally by their mom: Larry (Peggygy) Osoro of South Jordan; Joe (Ruth Ann Williamsen) Osoro of Denver; Judy (Doug) Smith of Denver; Terry (Cal) Huntsman of Taylorsville. Together they had nine grandchildren and 13 great-grand-children. Bonnie is preceded in death by her parentss; husband; brother, Boyd Kenner; sisters, Freda Kenner, Christine Compton, Mildred Morris; grandson, Rusty Rasmusen. She was famous within her family and community for her breads and desserts, including wedding cakes. Bonnie had a great sense of humor; even in her last days she still had a few one-liners that kept everyone laughing. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 S. 1950 E. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wed., Jan. 31, 2007 at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, and from 11:30-12:30 p.m. at Goff Mortuary on Thurs. prior to the graveside service. | 728 | Brian Edward Stroschein Times-News, The (Twin Falls, ID) - Wednesday, March 5, 2014 BOISE • Brian Edward Stroschein, 53, of Boise, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the University of Utah Burn Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Brian was educated through high school in Rupert, Idaho. He earned an electrical engineering degree from the University of Idaho, where he met the love of his life, Kathy Fuchs. Brian and Kathy were married on May 28, 1983, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Twin Falls, Idaho. They made their first home in Colorado Springs, Colo., where Brian started his career with Texas Instruments. Brian and Kathy moved to Boise, Idaho, in 1989 with their two children. Here he pursued becoming an electrician and started his own electrical and communication business. In 2003, Brian joined Hewlett-Packard and made significant contributions to the company as a quality assurance engineer. Brian loved the outdoors. He was happiest while rifle and bow hunting, hiking, backpacking, camping, rafting, waterskiing, motorcycle riding, cross-country running and biking with his HP friends. Being outdoors is what Brian enjoyed most, and he always wanted to share these times with his family and friends. Brian so loved his children and wanted them to experience all they could in life. This included an array of sports, archery competitions, shooting guns and raising llamas, in addition to all of his other hobbies. He was always there for his family in the form of making everyone laugh, giving advice and lending a hand where needed. Brian supported his community by being a weekly Eucharistic adoration adorer at Holy Apostles Catholic Church. He was able to share his faith and belief in God in special ways with many co-workers and colleagues. Several people have shared that Brian is the reason they returned to church, became a believer and learned to trust in God and his divine mercy. Brian had the joy of being a grandfather and was affectionately called "Boppa" by his two grandsons. He treasured his time spent playing, holding, teaching and giving them cookies. Brian's energetic spirit, laughter, sense of humor and light-hearted nature will be missed by so many. Brian is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; daughter, Stephanie (Justin) Leraris, with children Dominic and Keaton; son, Kevin; parents, Paul and Virginia; sisters, Madonna (Jim) Taipale and Lisa (Bill) Dean; brother, Eric (Katie) Stroschein; mother and father-in-law, Richard and Mary Lou Fuchs; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. | 729 | Cadet P. "Frenchy" Lacunza Cadet Pierre "Frenchy" Lacunza, 84, of Black Eagle, died of cancer Monday at a local hospital. Vigil service is 7 p.m. Thursday at Croxford Funeral Home. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Black Eagle, with burial following in Highland Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Kathleen Ann Lacunza of Black Eagle; children Terry Gene Lacunza and Maurice Lacunza, both of Tacoma, Wash., and Elisa Marie (Lacunza) Friedrich of Missoula; sisters Jeanne Sagasta, of Ontario, Ore., Leonie Seoane of Argentina, and Micheline Lekumberry, Monique Arhancet and Isabelle Laco, all of France; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Frenchy was born in Mendive, France, along with sisters from his father, Evariste Lacunza, and mother, Marie Lacunza, who along with two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. He also is preceded in death by a son, Pierre Lacunza, in 1973. Leaving the Basque homeland in the heart of the Pyrenees Mountains, Cadet immigrated to America in 1953. Though he was proficient in four languages, he studied and learned the English language in a shepherd's wagon while herding sheep in Glasgow, Mont., just across the border from North Dakota. He married Kathleen in Glasgow on Nov. 13, 1955. Prior to coming to America, he served in the French Under-ground as a teenager fighting Nazism during WWII. As a young man, he served with the French Army in the Vietnam War from 1950 to 1952. It was there that he gained his skills in telephonic communications. During the war, he contracted malaria and was given six months to live. He survived malaria with medication and, most importantly, by moving to a cooler climate in North America. After the war, he spent time in Indochina, now called Vietnam, where he learned to operate and manage oil refineries. Sadly, Cadet suffered the loss of one of his twin sons, Pierre, who met his fate when he was only 15 years old by falling off a farm truck in 1973. One thing Pierre was able to do before he died was spend time in the moun-tains during summer months and the hunting season. Cadet would take the family on camping trips and mountain excursions throughout their lives. He knew his way around the extreme mountains of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, where he established a permanent hunting site and often would take hunting excursions for weeks at a time. He left an amazing legacy: a love for the mountains and rivers of Montana. He imparted a love for the mountains and a sense of duty to care for and protect the wilderness. This past year, as he grew in age, Cadet found it a little bit harder to farm and a little bit harder to keep up the maintenance and care of such an enterprise. He also did not realize that he had an undiagnosed cancer. It was only two weeks ago that he went to a doctor after falling off his tractor. It was only a week ago that he was given a terminal diagnosis and everybody thought he had a little bit of time left. However, he did not. He was probably aware of his mortality because he made his peace with his family and friends. He died the morning of July 5, 2010, with his family at his side. He told his sons that he loved them and he felt that he had no regrets, and that he could leave this place with love all around him. | 731 | Carmen Blackwell Obituary Carmen Marie (Ascuaga) Blackwell finished her long walk in this world and went home to her Father's house on Wednesday, January 23, 2008. She passed peacefully after fighting back ovarian cancer and other health issues for years longer than expected. Carmen was born August 28, 1918 in Boise, Idaho, the oldest child of Basque immigrants, Jose and Marina Ascuaga. Carmen was always fiercely proud of her Basque heritage, and she passed that pride along to her sons, her grandchildren, and her many great-grandchildren. Her greatest legacy is that she leaves behind a strong, loving, and thriving tribe who knew her well. Carmen also lived her life as a faithful Catholic, most recently as a regular parishioner at St. Joseph's and later St. James here in Vancouver. She lived her faith as a good friend to all God's creatures, both plant and animal. A lifetime gardener, she made even the parking strip outside her Rosemere apartment a riot of blooms. Her gardens always fed the l local birds (and more than a few uninvited squirrels), and she had many well-loved pets _ including many unofficial ones. No stray animal ever left Carmen's door hungry. And Carmen loved God's human children just as much. Carmen loved square annd round dancing with the Happy Rounders and the B & B's, and she served as the unelected mayor of the Vancouver Farmer's Market. She was an outgoing lifetime student of the world who would love to talk to anyone about anything, especially opera, movies and "those Blazers!" Carmen read voraciously, mysteries and historical fiction and National Geographics, and she loved her word search puzzles. All in all, she exercised a lively, curious and often opinionated mind to the very end. Carmen is preceded in death by brother, Frank of Notus, Idaho. | 736 | Charlene Rae Uranga Charlene Rae Uranga, 69, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009, at home in Homedale , Idaho, with her husband and four daughters by her side. Charlene was born in Nampa on April 23, 1940, to Harold and Irene Markley. Charlene was named after her grandfathers, Charles Austin Johnston and Ray Earl Markley . Charlene had one brother Robert, and two sisters, Darlene and Judy. Charlene married her high school sweetheart Rufus Junior Uranga on June 25, 1960, and they celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this year. They lived in town in Homedale for a few years, they then moved to the farm at Mule Springs owned by Charlene's parents, Harold and Irene Markley. Charlene and Junior purchased their first farm on Highway 95 in Homedale in 1974 and remodeled an existing house into the beautiful home where they were still living. Charlene worked for Contel /GTE Telephone in Human Resources for over 20 years. She was offered a promotion requiring her to transfer to a new location but chose to take early retirement, allowing her to remain close to her family. After retiring from Contel /GTE, Charlene got her Real Estate license, and was most recently working as a Real Estate Broker for Owyhee County Realty with her daughter Lori. She dedicated herself to helping people and was instrumental in enabling many families to secure their first homes. Charlene was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 47 years and enjoyed a special bond of friendship with her Sorority Sisters. Charlene had many friends, and has remained especially close to her classmates and special school buddies throughout the years. Charlene loved life and she lived life for her family. Charlene and Junior formed a close-knit family with their four daughters and the many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren that have blessed their lives. They gave each of the girls five acrcres of land on the family farm where three of them have since made their homes. Family members can often be seen utilizing ditch bank roads as the family freeway between homes to get to one of the many family celebrations . Charlene never missed a family event and was the most avid supporter and biggest fan at any activity that included one of her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren . Charlene is survived by her husband Rufus Junior Uranga, daughter Julie Uranga and three daughters and sons-in-law , Lori and Ben Badiola, Diana and Ray Maxwell and Teresa and Jim Ryska. She also leaves two sisters and brothers-in-law , Darlene and Kenne Metzer and Judy and Bill Purdom.
