- A special valentine was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1924, Mary Margene Thomas. She was one of eleven children born to William and RosaBelle Thomas. Since she was one of the youngest she always claimed to be spoiled.
They moved to Oregon while she was in school so she graduated from Klamath Union High School in Klamath Falls. While there she made friends with Polly Urquiaga, who introduced her to her brother, Dee. They were such good friends they had a double wedding on September 16, 1942.
When Margene moved to Arock she went from privileged to no electricity or running water. She and Dee had three children, Lazaro, Mary Dee and Bill, who were all raised on the Urquiaga ranch in Arock, along with their nephew, Jesse Cline. Bill was killed an auto accident in Burns, Oregon in 1960. Dee passed away in 1988.
Margene has spent the last four years in Vale at the Pioneer Nursing Home where she received much love and special care.
Margene is survived by Lazaro ( Peanuts) and his three children, Lazaro, Chris and Molly and their family and their mother Annie Miller, Mary Dee (Gerry) and their four children, Eric, Brian, Michelle and Brent and family and Jesse and his two children, Dee and Sandra and their families. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Polly Baltzor, Cecilia (Sam) Shields and Vic Eiguren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Mary Margene Urquiaga will be held at 2 PM Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Jordan Valley Cemetery, Jordan Valley, Oregon. Friends may call from 4PM to 8PM Friday at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
