Segundo Arriola, 91, a longtime Bridgeport rancher, passed away Sunday Dec. 18, 2011, at Pioneer Place in Vale, Ore. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at the Vale Christian Church.

Segundo was born April 30, 1920, in Winnemucca, Nev., to Spanish Basque immigrants Marcelina Achabal Arriola and Ysidro Arriola. Ysidro immigrated from Spain to the United States in 1902. He returned to Spain and married Marcelina Achabal in 191913, and in 1917 she became a United States citizen and joined her husband in America. Segundo was raised in Andrews, Nev., and graduated from high school in Crane, Ore., in 1937. The family moved to Westfall, Ore., in 1939 where he later met and married his wife of 67 years, Edna Edmunson. Segundo and Edna moved from the ranch in Westfall with their four children Joe, Joanne, Pat and Bonnie after they purchased the Bridgeport ranch in 1953. Segundo and Edna worked together side by sidde on the cattle ranch, and after they reached the golden years, they still did many things together. Segundo enjoyed supporting Edna's hobby of making beautiful quilts, whether it was approving the colors, admiring her handiwork, or even helpinng her tear out a stitch or two. One of the highlights of their life was acting as Grand Marshals for the Bull Run parade at Unity in 1994. Segundo served as a member of both the Hereford school board and the Burnt River school board. He was also on the Unity Grange board and the Baker Cenex board. He loved working on the ranch and rode a horse until he was 89. The summer after he turned 90, he broke his hip but in a matter of months, he was often seen riding around the ranch on his 4-wheeler with his dog Rojo on the passenger seat.Visitors were always welcome at their home. He dearly loved to chat and would often engage others in lengthy conversations about the days of yore, as well as current happenings, politics and entertaining anecdotes. Segundo and Edna lived at the Bridgeport ranch until 2011 when they moved to Pioneer Place in Vale.

Segundo was preceded in death by his parents, Marcelina and Ysidro Arriola; his two brothers, Dionisio and Daniel; and his two daughters, Joanne Arriola and Bonnie Arriola Collins.
