He was active in his community, a familiar face in sports and rodeo social circles. Known to many for his larger than life personality with his quiet demeanor and strong opinions. His voice will be missed in many arena's in many states. Paul is survived by his three sisters, four children, and eleven grgrandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Dan. He will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday; April 7, 2012 at the Klamath County Fairgrounds in the John Hancock Event Center at 3:00 pm. A potluck event for all. will follow. A separate service will be held in Jordan Valley on Monday; April 9, 2012 in the Elementary School at 11:00 am with concluding services, at the Jordan Valley Cemetery. A potluck reception will follow. His family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to Oregon High School Rodeo Association, and to Klamath Falls Junior Rodeo group.

    Daniel Arritola Daniel Richard Arritola, 63, died July 9, 2010, of lung cancer. His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane. Refreshments will be served afterward at the Nazarene Church Family Life Center. There will be a second funeral at 10 a.m. PDT Saturday at the Jordan Valley Grade School Gymnasium in Jordan Valley. Interment will be at the Jordan Valley Cemetery. There will be a reception afterward at the Catholic Church parish halall in Jordan Valley. Dan was born on October 22, 1946, at Jordan Valley to Paul and Felisa Madariaga Arritola. He spent his childhood ranching in Jordan Valley. In 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He then married the love of his life, Mary McKay on Sept. 19, 1970. Over the next 10 years, the couple had four kids: Trina, Pete, Cecilia and Martin. They continued ranching in Jordan Valley until the spring of 1993, when they moved to Baker City. Later that fall they opened Oregon Trail Livestock Supply, and have continued in that business until the present time. Dan remained passionate about ranching throughout his life. One of his favorite things was branding calves. He was a good hand with a reata, and valued the traditions that went along with that. These were taught to him by his uncle, Rich, and it was important to him to pass it on to the next generation. Dan loved sports, especially high school basketball. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. While operating the store, he loved that he could continue to work with ranchers and agricultural people. Dan liked spending time with family. He had nine grandkids who could always bring a twinkle to his eye. Anyone who knew Dan knew he had a great sense of humor. Survivors include his wife, Mary Arritola; four children, Trina and her husband, Dave Riley, Pete and his wife, Charlotte Arritola, Cicilia and her husband, Roland Awusie, and Martin and his wife, Amber Arritola; his grandkids, Micacaela Riley, Lane Riley, Alana Riley, Holly Arritola, Jace Riley, Casey Arritola, Faith Arritola, Claire Riley, and Blake Arritola; brother, Paul Arritola; sisters, Marie Kershner, Rosie and her husband, Frank Pinkela, and Joanne and her husband, Mike Odiaga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Felisa Arritola; sister, Patricia Arritola; and brother-in-law, Dick Kershner.     James (Jim) Joseph Arritola, 67 was born in Boise, Idaho on April 29, 1946 to Joe and Josephine Arritola.
    He passed away May 18, 2013, after a long battle with diabetes.

    Jim graduated from Borah High School in 1964. While in high school he excelled in football, wrestling and track/field. He continued his education at College of Idaho, where he also played football. He graduated from C of I in 1968 with a B.A. degree in English.

    His first teaching job was at Vale High School, where he taught all levels of English. He also coached football, track/field, and wrestling. While head wrestling coach at VHS, he and George Fuson started the Vale Assassins Little Kids Wrestling Club. He also met his wife of 40 years, Kathy Goade . Together they had 2 sons, Joe (Theresa) Arritola, AJ Arritola, and a daughter Sarah (TJ) Rodriguez, 4 grandsons, Kaelleb, Joshawah, Mathieu, Thomas, and 1 granddaughter, Zettie.

    After Jim’s teaching career he remained active in many other activities including; St. Patricks C.C.D, Malheur County Fair Board, Ontario Basque Club, Malheur County Council on Aging, and substitute teaching, he was especially fond of his substititute teaching in Jordan Valley/Arock, and driving for Standage Farms during the fall harvest. Jim enjoyed going to and watching BSU football games, he was an avid sheep breeder, who liked going to fairs and sales throughout the West, especially the Nugget Show/Sale in Reno.

    Jim was very proud of his Basque heritage, his family, and his pride and joys his grandchildren. He loved watching them show at the fair, playing sports, or just spending time with them. The Arritola farm allowed Jim to teach his children and grandchildren many life lessons.

    He is survived by his mother Josephine, his wife, 3 children, daughter in law, son in law, 5 grandchildren, sister Joene Arritola, niece Amy Romans, 2 nephews Tanner and Trevor Romans.

    He was preceded in death by his father Joe, his stepfather Tom, his father in law AJ Goade, mother in law Dorothy Goade, and numerous aunts and uncles.

    A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patricks Catholic Church is Vale, Oregon. A Mass of the Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. on May 29, 2013 at St. Patricks in Vale.

    A private burial will be done at a later time.

    Alex Colby Arritola, age 20, of La Grande, died Monday, October 11, 2004 in an automobile accident. A celebration of life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Pioneer Park with a luncheon to follow at the La Grande Country Club in Island City. Participants are invited to bring photos and memories to share. Viewing will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. today at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

    Mr. Arritola was born on August 20, 1984, to Ron and Mona Arritola in La Grande. He was a five-year all-star with Babe Ruth League and played baseball in high school. He graduated from La Grande High School in 2002 and attended Southern Oregon University. He worked at Artesian Blue in Cove, and enjoyed being with his friends and family, music, baseball, motorcycles, camping, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, skateboarding, snow boarding, hauling snow in a pick-up to build booters and kickers and waiting for more snow.

    He was described by his family as the nicest guy that ever lived. He is leaving a large hole in the hearts in those who knew and loved him.

    Survivors include his parents and a sister, Kayla Arritola, all of La Grande; grandparents, John and Florence Arritola of Forest Grove, Diana Sanger of Olympia, Washington and Art Sanger of Ritzville, Washington; great grandparents, Gordon and June Hagan of Spokane, Washington and other relatives.
