  • Notes
    • Martin Fagoaga

Martin (Marty) Fagoaga passed to the Lord May 12, 2016, in his home. Cause of death has been determined as coronary failure. He was born August 22, 1962, in Elko, Nevada to his parents Rafael and Jean Pilar Fagoaga. He was the middle child of three brothers. Martin was raised in Elko, Nevada. He was educated in the Elko County School District and graduated from Elko High School in 1980.

Martin was a very driven and dynamic man, raised with the knowledge of hard work, values and drive towards success. He inherited these qualities from his parents who were beloved business entrepreneurs in the Elko area for decades. The family is very close knit to the Basque community and citizens of the Elko area. Martin was blessed to be raised with values, integrity, love, generosity, humility, and pride that perhaps only a Basque family could understand. Many friends and loved ones came to understand and embrace these qualities through the gift of his life with them. To be a friend with Martin was truly to be his family.

Martin worked in almost every aspect of the oil, construction, quarry, concrete, paving and mining industries throughout his life. Renowned for his skills as an equipment operator and management talents in these trades for many companies in the Reno and Elko Nevada areas. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 3. He owned and operated Basque Custom Work, a custom curb and concrete company, providing his services to the Reno and Elko communities up to the time of his passing.

Martin was a loving, giving and nurturing soul his whole life. Always the one who put others before himself and needs, to help others. His charm, personality, and honest love for all who entered his life is renowned. Epic humor his mastered traddemark. Whit of sarcasm his sword. Generosity his mantra. Open arms his soul. The Lord his guide. Love his gift. Martin was well known for his strengths and values in life. Some may call this hard headed, we Basque call it inherited tradition. HHe certainly lived life on his own terms and how he wished as the strong man he was. There were very few who pushed his limits to face his famous Basque temper. He could certainly stand his own ground with any. Doing so with love of others before himself.

Martin enjoyed many things in life. He loved hunting, fishing, motorcycles, and the outdoors just to name a few. The undying love of his pets is well known as he considered them his children. The one thing he absolutely enjoyed most, without doubt to any in his life, was his time with family and dear friends. There are few givens in this world but, if Marty told you he loved you or you were his friend, it could be taken as an absolute.

Martin is survived by his brothers David and Ernest Fagoaga. His niece Angeljean Pilar Fagoaga (daughter of David) and nephew Stephen Fagoaga (son of Ernie). His aunt and Godmother Anita Martinez Arduain (Andre). His aunts Louise Martinez Babiste (Jean deceased), Asun Fagoaga (Jose Martin deceased), Pepi Fagoaga (Cecil deceased), and Betty Fagoaga (Nicolas deceased). His Uncles of Al Martinez (Lois) and Joe Martinez. He is survived by many cousins and their children. His extended family of nephew Kodi C. Ellis, niece Ashlee K. Brundage and her son Kaycen Sealy as well as his godson Brian Herrera.

He once again is joined in the loving arms of his Mother Jean Pilar Fagoaga, who passed November 30, 2015, and his Father Rafael Fagoaga, who passed April 22, 1996. All now held in the Lord's Kingdom, to eternally dance in his hallway called Majesty.

Martin is and will be dearly missed by all. Son, brother, uncle, godfather, and beloved friend. He will ever grace our lives as he lives in our hearts to eternity.
