| 1151 | ONTARIO — Family and friends describe him as lively, sharp, witty and humorous. Perhaps one of Ontario’s most recognized World War II Veterans, Charles “Chick” Keim, will be missed in Ontario. Keim died Wednesday at the age of 93. Keim was a man with a tremendous amount of history. He was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division 501st Parachute Regiment, a title he took with great pride. Most notably, in his days with the U.S. Army Airborne, Keim was one of the few men who assisted in capturing Adolf Hitler’s home, known as the Eagle’s Nest. It was a prominent moment in history and a marked memory for Keim. During his time of service, he was awarded the Purple Star after he sustained a shrapnel wound to his buttock. He was also awarded the Bronze Star after he reportedly disabled a German Tiger tank. Ron Verini, a veterans advocate and friend of Keim, said Keim had shot out the tank’s radiator with a bazooka. “He was a decorated hero. He was a part of our living history,” Verini said. Keim was indeed a distinguished man in history, and he knew it, which is why he spent his time volunteering at schools, programs and projects to share his experiences and encounters in war. He regularly visited local high schools to tell WWII stories, and he dutifully worked alongside other Veterans by joining various organizations. Besides spending many years sharing his encounters in war, Keim’s family said he had many hobbies. He was extremely active, even at the age of 93, and he enjoyed making people laugh. “He would always tell jokes. He thought he was the funniest man,” his son, Tom Keim, said. He was also a singer. “He wasn’t professional by any means, but he enjoyed it,” his daughter, Mary Jo Flaynn, said. The decorated veteran was also known as an artist, and would memorize many songs, poems and chants. And he enjoyed dancing. “I would take him to many dances at the senior center, and all the ladies would flock to him,” Margie Yasuda, a family friend, said. A lover of all funny matters, Keim had a clown collection that he began in the 1980s and he was also a cartoonist. Above all, Keim loved his family and friends. Plastered around his home are photos of his grandchildren and family. He even began adding to photo albums, that were gifted to him by his son and daughter-in-law. “He just kept adding more and more pictures,” said Tom. Many of his war memories are saved in those photo albums and in the items he collected from his time in war, including a Nazi Germany Flag that is now kept at the Warhawk Museum in Caldwell. In his last years, Keim shared his war story as part of the museum’s Veterans History Project, where now, anyone can watch him retell his encounters in a video on the museum’s website. “We are proud to have people like Chick to tell their stories. He epitomized what the soldier is really about,” said Verini. “When he signed on the dotted line to serve, he continued to give back until the day he passed away.” | Keim, Charles (I156120)

| 1152 | Ontario—Gail Maltsberger of Ontario, Oregon passed away Thursday May 15th early in the morning due to complications arising from several bouts of pneumonia. Gail was born in Gary, Indiana to a loving mother Mary Howell and father James. Mary moved to Ontario, Oregon where Gail was raised by her mother and Sam Llona who Gail always referred to as her true father. She graduated from Ontario High School and attended the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Majoring in History She married Dean Maltsberger and had 2 children that were the light of her life. She moved to Salt Lake in the 1960’s where she lived a number of years. She was involved in her children’s little league, baseball, football, softball and dance. Her crowning achievement was her love and dedication to the United States Post Service. She was one of the first woman in management in the Rocky Mountain area and proud of it. After serving for 32 years she retired and returned to Ontario where she lived the remainder of her life. She was the family and neighborhood librarian and historian. Her vivid embrace of the writ- ten word was legendary. She loved to travel and did so often. Her favorite destination was the Oregon Coast. She is survived by her brother Thomas Llona, and her sister Maria Llona, and her children Dean Maltsberger and Pamala Chandler. She was proud to know and love 4 grandchildren Patrick Maltsberger, Jennifer Maltsberger, Kyrie Chandler and Ryanna Chandler. Gail had 3 great grandchildren Amelia Maltsberger, Jansen Maltsberger, and Oliver Maltsberger. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Mary, her father Sam, and her brother Sam. | 1153 | Ontario—Jeanne Lacunza Sagasta, 87, of Ontario, Oregon passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at her home in Ontario, Oregon among close friends. Jeanne was born to Evariste Lacunza and Marie Harguindeguy on December 26, 1926 in Mendive, France. She attended school in France. In 1947, Jeanne married Miguel (“Mike”) Sagasta in Mendive, France. From that union, one child, Marie Lucie, was born. After World War II, the Sagasta family moved to Argentina. After fourteen years, they moved to the United States, where they made their home in Ontario, Oregon. Jeanne worked for Ore Ida for 28 years and made many friends. Over the years, Mike and Jeanne spent many wonderful hours fishing and gardening together. Jeanne truly enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, and loved the outdoors. She was a wonderful caretaker to family and friends, including Lucy and Juan Egurrola, her husband, Mike and her good friend, Elena Calzacorta. Jeanne was a woman of faith and very involved with her church (Blessed Sacrament and the Holy Rosary Chapel) and the Altar Society. She also volunteered for such organizations as Little Red House, Meals on Wheels, Food Bank and several others. Jeanne was very proud of her Basque heritage and was a lifelong member of the Ontario Basque Club. She loved to cook and feed and host people. Jeanne was a warm, considerate, compassionate and loving person. She enjoyed people and life and people were attracted to her because she was genuine and spirit filled. Almost everyone that met her, said she “was the nicest woman that they had ever met.” She touched many people, young and old. She always had a warm smile and kind words for everyone. She was an angel. She will be very missed. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Mike (1998), her brother Cadet Lacunza (2010) and her nephew Pierre (1973). Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Marie Lucie, still missing on this day and four sisters, one brother in law, one sister in law and their children: Micheline Lekumberry (Mendive, France) (children - Marie Claude, Therese, Maritxu and Jeanne), Leonie Seoane (Buenos Aires, Argentina) (child - Hector), Monique Arhancet (Juxue, France) (children - Marie Michelle, Jeanine and Isabelle) and Izabelle and Pierre Laco (Juxue, France) (children - Evariste, Martta, Jean and Mirentxu) and her sister in law Kathleen Ann (Montana) (children - Terry Gene, Maurice and Elisa Marie); and very special friends, the Calzacorta and Gastanaga Families. | 1170 | Patricia (Patty) Ann Gomeza Wheelock April 15, 1966 - Oct. 16, 2016 Nyssa Patty Gomeza-Wheelock, 50, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family and friends. Patty was born on April 15, 1966 to Dolores and Javier Gomeza, the third of four children. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores, her son, David. She is survived by her husband Bob Wheelock, son Timothy Gomeza, sister Kristi Gomeza (Ken), Brothers Jay Gomeza (Megan) and Geno Gomeza (Karen), grandson Aiden, nephews Nick Gomeza, Ryan Wynn, Jeff Wynn and RJ Gomeza, nieces Marisa Gomeza and Autumn Murdock and many great nieces and nephews. | 1171 | Patrick Joseph Plaza March 10, 1992 - Sept. 16, 2017 ONTARIO Patrick Joseph Plaza, age 25, died unexpectedly on Saturday morning, September 16. Patrick, better known as PJ, was really larger than life. PJ was born and raised in Ontario and he really enjoyed living in a small town. PJ graduated from Ontario High School in 2010. In high school he played football on the offensive and defensive line for the Tigers. During one game, he even caught a pass on a tackle eligible, trick play two-point conversion. I did not fact check that, but that’s what he told me. Even though PJ was a pretty good sized kid, he also learned to play tennis and played doubles pretty well. PJ attended Treasure Valley Community College after high school and continued to play tennis for the Chukars until his graduation. PJ enjoyed hunting and fishing and then a little more fishing. He liked playing video games, loved going to the movies, he loved anything related to sports and sports trivia. PJ was always an upbeat guy and he never really got down despite any obstacles he may have faced. He was pretty much ready for whatever challenge that might arise that day. He loved playing pick-up basketball and beating his uncles in games of 1 on 1; he could really move you around at will and just back you in for a sweet little hook shot. He dominated at HORSE because he could make these outrageous shots from way out in the grass. PJ was a fun guy to be around, had a great sense of humor and he really liked to crack you up. He loved the Blazers and he thought LeBron James was the best player there ever was. He loved BSU football and followed its team closely. PJ was very generous with his time and always willing to help others. He continued supporting OHS football by volunteering with the team, and also coached many little league football teams. You only had to ask him once. He was a good friend. PJ is survived by his mother Vickie Jo Plaza, grandmother Kay Plaza, aunts, Lori and Lisa Plaza, cousins Ashley Plaza Watts, Jordan and Harper Watts, Asia, Sofie, Abbie, Emma, Kiley and Kody Plaza. Aunts and uncles, Joe and Helen Plaza, Pat and Laurie Plaza, and Mark and Cindy Plaza. PJ was loved by so very many of us, and he still is today. He touched so many people. He had an attitude that kind of started with you know what- why don’t I stay up late tonight playing video games or watching TV, sleep in tomorrow, and then get up and be totally committed-to love my family with all my heart, be kind to others and help out my friends when they need help. PJ was a very loving son, grandson, nephew, and cousin to all of us, and he will be so sorely missed. PJ, you left us way too soon brother, and we will always love you. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the TVCC Foundation that will go towards the Patrick J. Plaza Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship would be for an Ontario High School graduate attending Treasure Valley Community College. | 1172 | Patsien W. Echanis March 6, 1932-Dec. 29, 2013 Ontario--Patsien W. Echanis passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 29, 2013 in Ontario, OR. Pat was born in Brawley, CA on March 6, 1932 to Dick and Inez Wilson. Before entering into elementary school, the Wilson family relocated to Ontario, OR where Dick operated Signal Oil. After Dick's death, Inez took over the business, later sold it and became the office manager of the Credit Bureau. Pat attended school in Ontario and graduated in 1949. After graduation, Pat attended the College of Idaho for one year before returning to Ontario. In Sept of 1953 Pat married Frank Echanis in Winnemucca, NV. Recently there was a heated discussion about who proposed to whom and who paid for the marriage certificate, the truth continues to remain a mystery. One undisputed fact is that Inez (Pat's mother aka Nana) was on a mission to have Frank become her son- in-law. This legal partnership often resulted in Frank and Inez coming home late for Christmas Eve dinners due to their last minute shopping/drinking at the Elks Lodge. More than 60 years of a happy marriage validated Nana's intuition. Father Kirkpatrick later made it possible for Frank and Pat to be married in the Catholic Church. Father Kirk become part of the Echanis family and shared many holidays with them. Pat and Frank raised 4 children in Ontario; Mike, Frank, Liz and Cam. Pat & Frank become part time parents of many of family friends; Richard Anderson, Chuck Sanders, Mike Flanagan, Bruce Tsukamaki, Tim Kamimae, Lance, Kevin and Weston, all of whom spent many nights in the Echanis basement. Motherhood was Pat's most important job but she found time to help Frank at Plaza's Tavern and as a sales clerk at Mark's Men's Store. Pat was an active member of the Ontario Basque Club and although she was not Basque even Maria Echanis, Frank's mom, said she had the heart of a Basque woman. After Cam graduated from high school, Pat and Vicki Tuttle purchased the Vogue Women's Clothing store from Keith Farber. She remained in the store for 8 years before retiring. Whether you were old family friends like Stacia and Conley Davis who shared the Echanis dinner table during the holidays, or you met her during her retail days and she took you out for coffee, Pat always made you feel special and welcome. Her ability and willingness to open her heart to others during difficult times in their lives often transformed her kitchen table into a safe and healing space. Thru the years gallons of coffee and hundreds of cigarettes (mostly at Ramona Barinaga's), the ladies of the neighborhood made their rounds to each others homes. Pat would talk for hours on the phone with her surrogate sister, Patricia Bryan, as Dad puts it "for days they can talk and about what I don't know". Pat loved getting her hair done and getting dressed up to go to lunch at the Plaza Inn or dinner with the "girls" at Meechan's for finger steaks. Pat loved her friends and the time she shared with them. Pat loved going to McCall, ID and enjoyed her summers there for more than 50 years. As a child Pat had fond memories on spending time there at Girl Scout camp and after marrying Frank, took highly anticipated summer vacations that the entire family enjoyed. Frank made a gift to Pat on Mothers Day in 1970 of a lot to build a cabin and in 1972 she had a new vacation home to share with her family and friends. To this day, Pat's cabin rules are posted, keep it like you found it. Pat loved a clean home and the legacy of her vacuuming skills will forever be the gold standard. In Pat's last days, she shared with everyone who visited that her husband and caregiver had allowed her to live at home despite the serious condition of her heart and kidneys. As Pat said..."He takes such good care of me, I am lucky to have him". In her last month, she laughed to no end, to the point the family was asked to keep it down in St Al's cardio ICU. She went from home to hospital to hospice to heaven in 30 days...with her hair done...Perfectly Pat. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Inez; sister, Doris and son, Mike. The family would like to thank all of those who offered a helping hand and prayers over the years. Special thanks go to Father Jos, their neighbors (the Clasen's, Kitamura's, Murata's and Lowell Kolbaba), Aunt Lou Echanis and Heart and Home Hospice for taking special care of our family in these last difficult weeks. | 1174 | Paul Mendiola 1930 - 2011 Paul Mendiola, 81, of Payette, Idaho, passed away December 20, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Paul was born in Winnemucca, Nevada January 26, 1930 to Joseph and Mary (Lasa) Mendiola. He attended school in Harper, Oregon and graduated in 1948. He married the love of his life, Mona Smith, in 1950. They moved to Nevada where Paul worked at the Getchel Mine. Later they moved to Harper, Oregon where Paul worked for the Union Pacific railroad repairing ttunnels. He also worked for State of Oregon highway division building bridges. In 1956, he and Mona moved to Ontario, Oregon where he began his lifelong career of farming. His passion for farming lasted 56 years and the time working alongside his wife and children instilled his tireless work ethic to them. He could repair any machinery from pickups to mammoth combines, tractors and cars as well as the little machines the kids drove around the farm. He was a man of integrity who kept prromises and honored commitments. His grandchildren were one of the greatest joys of his life and the memories created will never be forgotten by any of them. He also loved to watch all sports on TV, especially football, baseball, and golf. He wawas an avid reader and it was nearly impossible to find a book that he had not read. | 1175 | Pauline G. Beitia passed away January 24, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. Pauline was born July 28, 1923 to Prudencio and Paula Mendive in Battle Mountain, Nevada. Pauline was the third of seven children born to Prudencio and Paula. She attended grade school during the summer at the family’s ranch in Gold Creek. Continuing her high school education for two years in Gold Creek and later transferring to Elko High School for her final two years. Pauline was fishing with her sister Louise, when they got lost and ended up in Annie Creek. They found a scarf and a young man, Fred G. Beitia, who was also fishing. Pauline and Fred courted from that point forward traveling 14 miles on horseback to see each other while she attended high school at the Gold Creek ranch. After her graduation from EHS in 1943, she lived and worked at the Star Hotel and Anacabes. She was engaged to Fred for 5 years before marrying him on July 3, 1945. They moved to Annie Creek in Charleston, Nev. where they originally met and lived for three years, before moving to Northfork and Riddle, Idaho, where Fred worked for the State Highway Dept and the Riddle Ranch. They returned to Charleston shortly thereafter when Fred’s father, John Guerricabeitia, was hurt while haying. Pauline and Fred continued to operate the Beitia ranch in Charleston until 2006. Pauline has long been known for her love of family, faith, open and kind heart, and the ranching lifestyle. She was an avid supporter and staple at the Elko County Fair livestock show, where she cheered on her kids, grandkids and numerous adopted 4-Hers. As a young child, Pete emigrated with his parents from Spain to the western United States. He lived in Boise, Marsing, and Adrian, where he attended Adrian High School. After completing his service in World War II, Pete returned to Adrian, where he worked on the family farm. He married Irma Douglas June 1957, and they raised their three children on the family row crop and dairy farm. Tomie was born at her Uncle Vic and Aunt Victoria Ansotegui's Ranch (Oregon Canyon Ranch) about 30 miles north of the Nevada State line on December 19, 1918 to Basque immigrants, Tomas Benito Telleria Alcorta and Dominga Ansotegui Gabicagogeazcoa Alcorta who migrated from Spain. Due to the worldwide flu epidemic her mother was kept home on the ranch and her father Tomas went to town and picked up the doctor who delivered her. Tomie was the oldest of five children. When she was young her family moved to McDermitt, Oregon where she attended school in a one room schoolhouse that was heated by a wood and coal stove. When she was old enough, she was given the job of starting the fire on cold mornings. The school was just for the students from Oregon and on the Nevada side there was a school for the Nevada kids. Tomie was a good student and enjoyed learning and playing games. After graduating from the eighth grade, Tomie started working at The Commercial Hotel in McDermitt. Half of the hotel was in Oregon and half was in Nevada. Tomie said if she was in the dining room she was in Oregon and if she was in the hotel she was in Nevada. In 1936 when Tomie was 18 years old, Pepper Bilboa, the manager of the hotel, took over The Martin Hotel and Boarding House in Winnemucca. Tomie and a friend decided to go with him. She worked hard cleaning rooms for the boarderers and serving tables. It was while working at The Martin Hotel that she met her husband, Pete Bengochea, as one of the customers and they were married on July 23, 1938. They made their home in Winnemucca where they had their daughter Joanna and son Gary. The family liked to spend time together camping in Hinkey Summit where Pete enjoyed fishing and hunting, while Tomie would knit and read. Tomie was a hard worker and spent many years caring for her home and raising her family. In 1950, Pete and a partner purchased the Richfield Oil Agency delivering oil and gas. She worked in the office keeping records for twenty years. Tomie was a beloved member of the community. She was a charter and lifetime member of the Eagles Auxiliary serving in all positions including State President. It was in 1957, while serving as President, that Tomie was invited to attend the National Eagles Auxilary Convention in New York City. Due to her aversion to flying Tomie chose to take the three-day trip by train rather than make the 4-hour flight. She later overcame her dislike for air travel and enjoyed many trips, including visits to the Basque Country to see cousins and relatives. When her husband Pete passed away in 2003, Tomie devoted much of her time to the Senior Center helping run their craft and gift shop. Affectionately known by many as Amuma, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her door was always open and she had a never-ending supply of cookies and hugs. For the last four years of her life Tomie was a resident of Harmony Manor. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff for their kindness and dedication in caring for Tomie. | 1189 | Rafael Erquiaga passed away on May 27, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 4, 1928, to Maria Visitation (Goitiandia) and Rufino Erquiaga in Bizkaia, Spain. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 to work as a sheepherder before pursuing a career in mining. He became a U.S. citizen in 1960 and returned to Euzkal Herria to marry the love of his life, Felipa Uriguen. The newlywed couple came to the United States on June 21, 1961, to begin their new lives together. After mining in Getchell and Lovelock, Rafael planted his roots in Battle Mountain, working for Battle Mountain Gold Company for 26 years. Retiring in 1993, he loved to fish, garden, tend his grapevines and make Basque wine (txakolin). Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. His life was outstanding example of a strong work ethic, filled with integrity and devotion to family. Rafael is survived by Felipa, his wife of 46 years, son Ralph (wife Lois) of Battle Mountain; daughters Angie Hernandez (husband Robert), Mary Stanley Romero (husband Gary) of Reno. He was so happy to be the “World’s Greatest Aitxitxe” to Hannah Erquiaga and Jayson Cutler of Battle Mountain, as well as Amaia Stanley, Jason, Ryan and Jamie Romero of Reno. He is survived by brothers Antonio, Joaquin and Ramon, sisters Martina and Miren of Euzkal Herria and brother Eusebio of Battle Mountain. He is also survived by numerous cousins in northern Nevada. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Felix and Jose Maria and sister Natividad. | 1190 | Rebecca Marie Aldape Platt, 60 of Boise, died on Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at a local hospital. Becky was born Dec. 25, 1938, in Ontario, Ore., the daughter of Frank and Connie Aldape. Her family moved to Boise and she graduated from Boise High School class of 1956. She was an original member of the Boise Basque Dancers. On July 4, 1959, she married Charles F. Platt and they resided in Ontario, where she started a family and was active in the Ontario Basque Club and St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. The family then moved to Boise in 1972. She was very involved in her children's interests and was known as a Judo, Wrestling and Drill Team "Mom" and shared that title among all her kid's friends. Outside of her family, she loved golfing, BSU Bronco Football (even when they lost!), gambling, cards; and the time she spent in McCall. Later in her life, she worked for many non-profit organizations, Friends of Capital City, Idaho Hunger Action Council/Idaho Foodbank and finally Under the Umbrella. She was passionate about her work and the people she worked with. She will be remembered as an enthusiastic, caring, loving, giving, and concerned woman who had many friends and loved ones and she will be GREATLY missed by all who had the good fortune to have known her. | 1194 | Remedios Jayo (Reme) Yturri 1914 - 2014 | Obituary | Condolences Remedios Jayo (Reme) Yturri Obituary Remedios (Reme) Jayo Yturri Resident of Ontario, Oregon Remedios (Reme) Jayo Yturri passed away June 10, 2014, in her home in Ontario, Oregon at the age of 99 accompanied by her loving caregiver Rachael Garza. Reme was born November 12, 1914 in Boise Idaho to Anastasio E. Jayo and Anunciacion Amias Alberdi Jayo, who had immigrated to the United States from the Basque region of Spain. She attended local Boise schools and graduated from Boise High School in 1935. Reme married Anthony Yturri on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1942 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Boise. Not having a honeymoon, since Tony was in the Army, they moved to Washington D.C. until Tony was sent out of the country. Reme moved back to Boise and lived with her mother during the war. At the end of the war they moved to Ontario, Oregon where Tony resumed his law practice with Judge Biggs until Judge Biggs retired. Tony started the law firm Yturri - Rose and was in the Oregon State Senate serving sixteen years. A woman of great faith, Reme walked to church everyday with her good friend Bob Mooney, having a contest of picking up pennies they would find on the street. Reme served on the altar society at Blessed Sacrament Church in Ontario. She also aided in taking care of numerous people in assisted living including her mother-in-law Justa, who passed away at the age of 103. Tony and Reme enjoyed many years taking turns hosting their long standing supper club. With Tony's involvement in politics Reme spent many hours working on committees, entertaining visiting politicians and their spouses, and helping out on Election Day. Tony and Reme loved traveling with many of their good friends and took countless trips to Spain to visit family. They loved Hawaii and Reme traveled with her good friend Lourana Echanis to China. She went whitewater rafting for a week with her nephew Greg in her mid-seventies. She loved gardening, golfing, tole painting, and attending Basque celebrations. Reme is preceded in death by her beloved husband Tony, her parents, sisters Anes and Isabel, her brother John, and her "other brother" Frank Jayo. She is survived by her niece JoAnes Gillespie of Idaho Falls, Jeff and Dick Jayo of Boise, Carlos Mendiola of Boise, Gary Edson of Boise, and Greg Edson of Twin Falls. A Visitation and Vigil will take place at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Ontario, OR on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 5:30pm and will be followed by a Reception. At Reme's request, the Funeral Service and the Committal Ceremony will be a private family gathering in Boise. | 1197 | Richard "Pag" Pagoaga 1922 ~ 2015 Richard "Pag" Pagoaga, 93, of Boise, died peacefully in his home on Friday, November 27, 2015, in Boise. He was born on October 11, 1922, in Boise to Ignacio and Marie Pagoaga. He was the eldest of four brothers and two sisters. They were very special to him. He was very proud of his Boise and Basque heritage. One of his fondest memories was when he was a young kid selling newspapers on the corner of 8th and Main in front of the former Eastman Building (now the Zions Bank Building). Richard attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and St. Theresa's Academy where he graduated from in 1940. He then set off on an overseas adventure with his three closest friends, Murray Kidd, Joe Goicoehea, and George Rosandick to work for Morrison Knudsen building a Naval Air and Submarine Base on Wake Island in the South Pacific. Shortly thereafter, the Japanese attacked the Island and Richard and his friends became prisoners of war for four grueling yyears. All his fellow POWs formed a life-long bond and held annual reunions until their very end. Upon returning from War World II, Richard moved backed to Boise where he meet his beautiful wife of 66 years, Kathleen Wilson, whom he loved dearly. They were married at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Weiser, Idaho. Richard then embarked upon a career in banking. First, with the Credit Bureau, then with the Bank of Idaho (now Wells Fargo), where he rose to the executive ranks. Many of Boise's iconic car dealerships and businesses got their start because this old fashioned banker believed the most important criteria for a loan was the character of the borrower. Richard and Kay had two children, Jill and Rich Jr. He was a wonderful f father. In 1985, Richard retired from banking and ventured into an active retirement. He exercised at the downtown YMCA three days a week up until three months before his passing. He really enjoyed visiting with his fellow members and the stafff. In 1988, Richard, Murray, Joe and George took their sons Rich Jr., Bruce, Dan and Tim along with his brother Al Pagoaga (a Marine on Iwo Jima) and returned to Wake Island for a special POW reunion. It was an emotional yet extremely fun journeey for all. He had a secret talent as a "pet whisperer" and watched cats and dogs for family and friends. Richard and Kay visited the birth place of his Atatxi and Amuma (Grandpa & Grandma) at Arantzamendi in Motrico, Spain and attended the Boise Jaialdi Basque Festivals. For sixteen enjoyable years they partially wintered in Green Valley, Arizona with Kay's sister Dorothy Peterson. They also had extensive travels throughout the West, Europe, Mexico, and Hawaii and had several fun fillled family trips to Hawaii and Cabo San Lucas with their son, their daughter-in-law Jeanne and granddaughter Abby. One of his greatest joys was being able to help babysit and spend time with his granddaughter. Richard was a tough and special man, who touched the lives of many. He was preceded in death by his father and mother (our beloved Amuma); his brothers, Frank and Henry; sister-in-law, Dorothy Peterson; father-in-law, Oren Wilson; mother-in-law, Rosemary Wilson (our beloved Nana)a); and his darling daughter, Jill. Richard is survived by his dear wife, Kay; his son, Rich Jr.; daughter-in-law, Jeanne; granddaughter, Abby; brother, Al; sisters, Marge Campbell and Vickie Peterson; and the extended Yribar, Campbell and Wagner families. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Boise VA, Harrison Home Hospice and Trinity Home Care. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Our Lady of Rosary Catholic Church with interment at the Morris Hill Cemetery. | 1198 | Robert Lansing DeLong, loving husband and father, golf fanatic, Pink Floyd devotee and culinary virtuoso, died at home on October 25, 2015 after quietly saying his goodbyes to his wife Rochelle and sons Connor and Lansing, who were by his side. Robert was born on November 17, 1964 to Bill and Connie (Bates) DeLong in Ontario, OR. In 1969, Connie died in a car accident. The family moved to Milton-Freewater in 1970 where Bill met and married Jewel Williams. Robert grew up there with his sister Mary and his parents, Bill and Jewel DeLong. In school Robert played baseball, basketball and football. With his 90+ mph fastball and overhead curveball, he lettered in baseball and graduated in 1983. From there, he went to Whitman College with a baseball scholarship for two years and earned his secondary education degree from Western Oregon State University. His sister Mary introduced Robert to Rochelle in 1986 and they married on October 27, 1990. They settled in Tacoma, WA where Connor was born in 1995. In 1996, they moved to Boise and in 1999 Lansing was born. Robert took a technology job in 2002 in the Lierz family business where he supported the gadgetry and software of company's operations until July 2015. A foodie who followed his palate, Robert was the family chef. He loved spicy dishes, was known for his grilled salmon and won a few ribbons in the annual work chili competition. His passion for cooking was matched only by his love of golf. People describe Robert as 'warm, stable and funny.' And while he didn't like surprises, he never minded a call from his sister, parents, or any family or friend in need of his help. Above all else, he was committed to his family. He took his role as provider and family man seriously. Rochelle and he worked as partners, planning meals, keeping up the house, and covering the boys' activities. He loved his wife and kids beyond measure. In April 2015, Robert was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. After a six month fight, he died at home surrounded by family. Services were held in early November. | 1199 | Sabina Benedicta Abarrategui Emerson March 22, 1929 ~ August 5, 2015 Sabina Benedicta (Abarrategui) Emerson, age 86, passed away on August 5, 2015. The daughter of Domingo and Benedicta Abarrategui, Sabina was born on March 22, 1929 in Boise. She attended St. Teresa's Academy and as a teen she worked as an usherette at the Egyptian Theater. After high school, she attended business school and worked in an office until she met and married George Emerson. She eventually moved to southern California to raise her growing family. After her children were raised, she was employed for many years at a cable company in Palm Desert where she enjoyed her job and her co-workers. Upon her retirement, Sabina returned to Boise. She was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church. In her free time, Sabina enjoyed a variety of artistic and creative hobbies and her family is blessed with many special keepsakes that she made. She w was a prolific knitter who created special afghans for her family members; she also knitted afghans for various local charities each year. It's comforting to her family to know that there are so many of Sabina's blankets keeping people warm. She also loved watching tennis and golf and she delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Serrita (Harry) Beaulieu; Michael (Liselda) Emerson; Vikki (Ted) Johnson; Georgia Emerson; and Margaret Emerson. She is also survived by grandchildren Kelly and Sarah Stohr, Cooper Emerson, Damara Castrejon, Erika Zepeda, Jordan Johnson, Tanner Emerson, Robert and Madelene Sheeran, as well as great-grandchildren Anna and Alex Stohr and Hazel Kurzawski. Two of her sisters, Angelus White and Connie Naylor, also survive her. Jenny and Emily Beaulieu and Braden and Kailey Crain were also an important part of her family in her later years.
