John Bicandi 1925 ~ 2016 John Bicandi passed away peacefully on February 16, 2016 at 90 years old. John was born to Ciriaco and Maria Cruz Bicandi on July 27, 1925 in Nampa, Idaho. Soon thereafter, John, his parents and 5 siblings moved to a ranch in Marsing, where John attended elementary school and high school. It was at Marsing High School where John met the love of his life, Nina Mae Hale. John adored Nina, and has missed her terribly since her death in 2006. John and Nina were blessed with four sons; Gary, Jack, Jim and Pat. Shortly after John and Nina were married, they purchased a dairy ranch in Marsing. John and Nina spent many happy years on the ranch, just across the road from John's family ranch. Their sons have maany wonderful memories of their lives on the ranch. After running the ranch for more than 35 years, John and Nina moved to Winnemucca, Nevada, where John managed a hay farm until his retirement in 2000. John had a great sense of humor, and he and Nina had many lifelong friends in addition to their large families. John and Nina welcomed many guests at the Marsing ranch—neighbors, friends, family and nearby hunters were always welcome for one of Nina's amazing meals and infamous desserts. While Nina cooked, John entertained and kept everyone laughing. Many evenings at the ranch were filled with music, laughter, good food and a game of cards. When Nina and John weren't entertaining, they could often be found at the Nampa Elk's Lodge for a night of dinner and dancing. John was also proud of his Basque heritage and was a founding member of the Euzkaldunak Basque Club of Boise and Txoko Ona Basque Club of Homedale. John is survived by his sons, Gary and (Janice) Bicandi of Star, Pat and (Ruth) Bicandi of Elko, Nevada, and daughter-in-law, Antonia Bicandi of Boise. John was blessed with and is also survived by eight grandchildren- Rochelle (Greg) Morse, Maite (Jay) Kouns, Jim Bicandi, Jacqueline (Geoff) Kite-Powewell, Nicholas (Izar) (Bicandi), Beverly (Travis) Nagel, Jamie Alcorta, and Andy (Kristina) Bicandi. John is also survived by great-grandchildren- Macy, Easton, Brooklyn, Brody, Amaya, Jordan, Ashley Elle, Isabella, Jackson, Gabriella, Charlotte, Joe, Courtney, Javonni, Adree, Livee and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his wife, Nina; sons, Jack and Jim; parents, Ciriaco and Maria Cruz; and siblings, Lucas, Angel, Connie, Pilar, Marie, Salvador and Ciriacco. The family would like to thank the staff of at the Autumn Cove Assisted Living Center for their wonderful care and compassion during John's final years. Graveside service will be held Saturday, February 20th, 10:00 am at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, Idaho. Following the graveside service, there will be a family and friend dinner held at Txoko Ona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Euzkaldunak Basque Club of Boise and Txoko Ona Basque Club of Homedale.
