(Photo) Richard (Richie) Pablo Sillonis, of Glenns Ferry, 95, passed away Friday, June 14, at the VA Hospital in Boise.
Services will be held Monday, June 24, 2013, with a viewing from 1-1:45 p.m. and funeral service at 2 p.m., at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home, burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

The fourth son among seven children, Rich was born on July 10, 1917, in Mountain Home, to Julia Chacartegui (Lekeitio) and Pablo Sillonis (Ispaster), from the Basque Country.

(Photo) He was raised in Mountain Home with older brothers Julio "Juke" and John "Chuck" and younger siblings Alfonso, Lydia "Lil" and Robert.
Rich spent summers of his early years at Chimney Creek, where his father worked as a sheepherder.

Along with all his brothers, Rich was active in several high school sports, particularly football, basketball and tennis.

He graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1936.

He worked with his family in the sheep business until joining the U.S. Army in 1942. He first served in the Cavalry Regiment, assigned to Germany. When his brother, Alfonso, was killed in action on Leyte in 1943, Richie was granted a furlough to return to Idaho for the memorial service.

During that time, he married Margaret Wooles in Louisville, Kent.

Richie was reassigned to the 10th Armored Division, 11th Tank Battalion, the "Tigers," in Germany. He served in WWII until 1945, and he returned to Idaho to Glenns Ferry where he lived the remainder of his life.

Richie and Margaret were married 13 years and had two daughters, Linda and Diana "DD."

Richie worked at the DeRail as a card dealer, at Shrum Motor Company, and for the city of Glenns Ferry, where he retired as city crew maintenance supervisor.

After retiring, he worked in the potato cellars as crew boss and had many stories to tell during this time.

He enjoyed hunting, golfing and fishing. Nearly all the fishing trips were with his brothers, Juke and Chuck, and good friend Bob Mendiola (and in early years, also with his Tio Tacolo Chacartegui).

Richie was a long-time sports fan, particularly basketball and football. He was a faithful spectator at games of the Glenns Ferry Pilots and was a huge supporter of the BSU Broncos, evident in his wearing blue and orange. Richie, Juke, Chuck and Gloria and Louie and Lil attended Bronco home games until they no longer could climb up to their reserved seats.

In recent years, Richie was a fan of TV game shows and lottery scratch tickets and he still filled out his picks for March Madness.

Surviving Richie are his two daughters, Linda (Ed Neuer) and Diana "DD", grandchildren Jesse Sillonis, Bob and Nicole Neuer, great-grandchildren Jessie, Jacelynn, Riley and Jordan, and great-great-grandchildren Annalynn, Trinity and Jaydin. He is also survived by his sister, Lydia Jausoro, sister-in-law Sylvia Sillonis, his special friend Gloria plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richie was preceded in death by his brothers Alfonso, Robert, Chuck, Juke and an infant brother Juan, and by his brother-in-law Louis Jausoro and sister-in-law Gloria Sillonis.

Richie was a proud member of two Basque clubs. Memorial donations would be graciously accepted by Euzkaldunak Basque Foundation, P.O. Box 2613, Boise 83701, and Euskal Lagunak, P.O. Box 88, Mountain Home 83647.
