Annual Benefit Dinner Dance
The club has hosted a benefit dance since 1948. In its current format, the event is held at the Four Rivers Cultural Center and features a traditional Basque dinner, dance performance, lamb auction, and public dancing to live music.

The dance has become known as a charitable community event, with the money going back into the community in a variety of forms. Among these is the Marge Plaza Memorial Scholarship, providing the newspaper to the hospital and paying for meat for senior dinners. In addition, a large donation is given to a selected charity each year.  In the past the Ontario Fire department and Holy Rosary Hospital have received this donation for the purchase of expensive equipment such as CAT scan equipment. The Senior Citizen Center, Project Dove, and Help Them to Hope are among many other charities that have received donations from the Ontario Basque Club.  Whatever is left over, after club insurance and operating costs, is used for events such as Festival of Trees, America’s Global Village and Festival, and fireworks on the Fourth of July.  More about this event

Basque Language Instruction
The club is participating in a computer-based language learning program.  Details

Global Village
The Ontario Basque Club hosts a booth at America's Global Village held in June.  The Beti Alai Dancers also represent the club at this event performing dances from the Basque Country. See article in Euskalkultura.com (in Spanish).

Cooking Class
Beginning in 2002 the club started monthly cooking classes for members in order to pass on traditional cooking methods and recipes.  The first lesson covered a fried cod dish with peppers and flan.

Summer Picnic

Bring your own table service and food.  Drinks will be provided.

The 2004 picnic featured the first annual "euskathlon", a series of traditional and non-traditional team competitions including soka tira, txingak, ikurrina relay, 2 x 4 trainerak, and combination challenges.  The txapeldunak or winners received baseball caps with our Euskathlon logo.  There was also a Txiki Txapelketa for the little ones. Click here to see video clips and photos from the 2004 picnic.  The  2005 picnic and Euskathlon will be held Sunday, July 10th in Lions Park beginning at 1:00 pm.

Sustraiak Roots Project
In June 2004 OBC has embarked on a new project to explore and celebrate our Basque roots.  Photographs and documents are being digitized so that these together with family histories can be archived for our future generations.

Members have been asked to collect photos and documents from their private collections to be scanned and added to the Ontario Basque Club archive.  More...
